Net Energy Metering (NEM)

  • Net Energy Metering (NEM) is a government initiative designed to help consumers lower their electricity bills. It allows you to export excess solar energy generated by your system to the TNB grid, reducing your TNB electricity charges. The current contract tenure with TNB is 10 years.

  • After 10 years, you can still use the power generated by your solar system to reduce your electricity bill. However, any excess solar energy will no longer offset future electricity charges.   • For residential consumers, the maximum allowable capacity for a solar PV system is:

    • 12 kWp for a single-phase system
    • 72 kWp for a three-phase system
  • Yes, the NEM scheme is available to individuals with residential properties. To qualify, ensure that the name on your TNB billing account matches the name on your property title.

  • Yes, we will assist you throughout the entire process, from consultation to getting your home powered up with solar energy.

  • Yes, you can install solar as long as the property and TNB bill are under your name.

  • Any excess solar power generated will be exported to the utility grid, earning you NEM credits. These credits can be used to offset your electricity bill in the following months. 

  • Yes, surplus energy credits are valid only until the end of the calendar year. Any unused credits will be forfeited after that period.
