Maxis eKelas helps students unleash their potentials

Technological advancements have brought about unprecedented changes and opportunities in education. The ability to access learning resources and tools can create a significant change in students' lives as they move forward in today’s increasingly digital world. Maxis, dedicated to connecting communities to a world of possibilities, is pushing boundaries and shaping a future where everyone in Malaysia can access the technologies and opportunities that drive progress. Through its flagship eKelas programme, Maxis has partnered with the Ministry of Education to enhance learning experiences, making digital education more accessible, particularly for underserved communities.

Last June, Maxis recognised 23 eKelas students with the 2024 eKelas Anugerah Gemilang Award, which came in the form of National Education Savings Scheme grants worth up to RM1,500 each. Launched in 2017, the eKelas Anugerah Gemilang Award celebrates students who have shown significant improvement in five core subjects—Bahasa Melayu, English, Science, Mathematics, and History based on their school exam or assessment results, as well as active participation in eKelas activities. Three recipients of the 2024 eKelas Gemilang Award shared how eKelas has supported their learning and helped them achieve their dreams.

Wira Khaleef Ilman bin Wira Zulkerey, a Form 3 student from SMK Selandar, Melaka, has made progress in all five core subjects. Aspiring to explore the field of politics, he shared that beyond helping with core subjects, eKelas has sparked a newfound interest in learning STEM. Through eKelas’ annual STEM competition, Misi Jelajah Digital (MJD), Wira discovered his passion for programming. “I had never used Scratch before, but after joining MJD, I started learning and practicing it every day.” eKelas also helped improve his English skills. His participation in eKelas boosted his confidence, encouraging him to explore public speaking by competing in a state-level speech competition after winning at the district level.

"eKelas encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone," shared Chong Pohyi, a graduate of SMK Tasek Utara, Johor Bahru, and a participant in MJD. Despite initially lacking digital skills for coding, she stayed resolute and ultimately emerged as a competition winner. This achievement made Pohyi even more determined to pursue her dream of becoming a Computer Engineer or Data Scientist. Through her participation in the eKelas program, Pohyi realised how it has enhanced her coding skills and improved her academic performance in four core subjects.

To assist students with their core subjects, the eKelas portal provides bite-sized learning videos and quizzes aligned with the national curriculum. Nor Amira binti Mazlan, a Form 1 student from MRSM Kota Putra, Terengganu, who aspires to become a doctor, explained, "I understand concepts more clearly after watching the eKelas videos. Usually, I watch the videos first before attempting the quizzes. This helps me grasp what the teacher explains in class." Nor Amira has shown progress in three core subjects and believes that eKelas also strengthens her communication skills, which will be invaluable in her journey to becoming a successful doctor.

The benefits of eKelas go beyond academics. Through initiatives like HIPMax StoryFest, which promotes immersive use of English, and MJD, which focuses on STEM education, Maxis is equipping students with a holistic set of skills.  Maxis invites students to seize the opportunities offered by eKelas.
