More Communities In Sarawak Now Have Access To Maxis eKelas
Maxis is bringing digital education to more communities in Sarawak by expanding eKelas – an after-school digital learning initiative – to more Pusat Internet (PIs) in the state. The community of Pusat Internet Kg Tebelu in Sebuyau is the latest in the state to reap the benefits of Maxis eKelas.
At an event held here today, Robert Nason, Maxis’ Chief Executive Officer, together with Alex Bong, Maxis’ Head of Sarawak region, interacted with eKelas students and the community.
“Maxis eKelas is our flagship Corporate Responsibility programme that leverages on technology and the Internet to bring digital learning closer to the community especially those in the rural areas. As a digital enabler, we are delighted to provide these students with access to interactive learning content and interaction with experienced teachers. eKelas offers teaching and learning in a fun, vibrant and engaging way,” said Robert Nason.
During the event, the community experienced first-hand the live tutorial for Mathematics and English, where classes were being streamed from Kuala Lumpur through videoconferencing. Students also showcased how the eKelas portal had helped with their learning.
Meanwhile, there was a demo on a new feature of eKelas, eCikgu, which is currently being trialed. eCikgu is a live chat platform where students can immediately interact with teachers and ask questions.
eKelas is delivered at MCMC owned Pusat Internet under Maxis’ care. Maxis is the first company to bring digital learning to Pusat Internet. Currently, Maxis eKelas is running in 54 Pusat Internet across 10 states both Peninsular and East Malaysia. In Sarawak alone, there are 13 Pusat Internet located in Kuching, Miri and Sibu, where students can have access to eKelas.
In addition to offering live tutorials and portal content, Maxis eKelas regularly organises on-site events and activities such as competitions and holiday camps, to make the students’ learning experience more exciting. One of the latest activities recently introduced is Maxis Motivates, a programme where Maxis employees share their life stories and experiences with eKelas students all over the country, with the hopes of inspiring them and expanding their knowledge.
Maxis eKelas is an after-school digital learning initiative that aims to improve the academic performance of students in rural and urban communities. Its focus is on three subjects - Science, Mathematics and English - for Form 1, 2 and 3 students. eKelas offers a combination of live tutorials, group learning and interactive digital content which is in line with the Malaysian School Syllabus.
