Maxis Employees Unite To Raise RM30,000 For The National Cancer Society Of Malaysia

In typical MaxisWay spirit, Maxis employees came together for the Maxis Charity Jogathon in the early hours of Saturday (6 April) to raise funds and awareness for the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM). In doing their part for the battle against the Big C, employees raised over RM15,000, while the company matched the amount, bringing the total contribution to RM30,000.

Maxis’ Charity Jogathon this year was held in conjunction with World Health Day on 7 April. Open to all Maxis employees as part of its ongoing Employee Engagement efforts, the run was categorised by three distances, each requiring a minimum donation amount – RM50 for 5km, RM100 for 10km and RM150 for the 15km run.

“At Maxis, unlocking the potential of our employees is not just confined to work, but equally to our MaxisWay culture and spirit of creating possibilities in giving back to the community. Our charity jogathon is just one of many examples of this spirit that we have instilled within the company for many years. We hope that our humble contribution to NCSM will go a long way in supporting their initiatives and programmes,” said Tricia Lim, Acting Head of People and Organisation.

“Over 100,000 Malaysians live with cancer at any given time – it is the fourth largest cause of death in the country. In Malaysia, cancer is often detected or diagnosed late, with over half of all Malaysian cancer patients diagnosed at stages three or four. We cannot emphasize enough how important it is to educate the public on this issue, and to promote early diagnosis and screening. A portion of the donations that we receive go towards such education, apart from care and support, so we are naturally grateful for this initiative that Maxis has organised,” said Ms. Clare Ratnasingham, Vice President of NCSM.

Adding to the fun, warm up and warm down sessions were conducted by sponsor Peak Fitness, followed by a lucky draw and cheque presentation at the end of the event by Maxis CEO-designate, Gokhan Ogut, to Clare.
