Maxis announces Chairman transition
Maxis today announced that Raja Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Arshad bin Raja Tun Uda has decided to step down as Chairman of the Board of Maxis Berhad (Maxis) effective 22 April 2021, upon conclusion of the Company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM). Raja Tan Sri Arshad served as Chairman of Maxis since its listing on Bursa Malaysia in 2009.
The Board has appointed Tan Sri Mokhzani bin Mahathir to succeed Raja Tan Sri Arshad. He currently serves as Senior Independent Director of the Board. Meanwhile, Raja Tan Sri Arshad will continue to serve as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Maxis.
“It has been a privilege and honour to serve as Chairman of Maxis for 11 years, to work alongside my fellow board members in guiding the Company in its incredible transformation from a leading mobile player to the leading converged solutions provider in the country. My deepest appreciation goes to the Board, management and employees of Maxis from whom I have received tremendous support which I will forever cherish.

Tan Sri Mokhzani currently chairs Maxis’ Audit and Risk Committee and is a member of the Nomination and Remuneration Committees as well as the Government and Regulatory Affairs Committee. He will relinquish his roles as Senior Independent Director and Chairman of the Audit and Risk Committee immediately after the AGM on 22 April 2021.
After starting his professional career as an offshore engineer with Sarawak Shell Berhad, Tan Sri Mokhzani ventured into the components manufacturing, oil and gas services, finance and healthcare sectors. His past corporate experience included lead executive positions in Pantai Holdings Berhad, THB Industries Berhad, Tongkah Holdings Berhad, Kencana Petroleum Bhd besides being co-founder of SapuraKencana Petroleum Berhad. Currently, his portfolio of investments via Kencana Capital Sdn Bhd includes businesses in IT, property, agriculture and food industry and the automotive sector. Tan Sri Mokhzani is actively involved in motorsports having served as Chairman of Sepang International Circuit Sdn. Bhd., which hosted the FIA Formula One World Championship for 13 years until 2017. He is currently President of Motorsports Association of Malaysia, which is the FIA and FIM endorsed sanctioning body for all motorsports in Malaysia. Tan Sri Mokhzani graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma in the U.S.
62% of the interest in Maxis Berhad is indirectly held by Binariang GSM Sdn Bhd, in which Saudi Telecom Company has a 25% interest, with the remaining 75% owned by Harapan Nusantara Sdn Bhd, Usaha Tegas Sdn Bhd and affiliates.
