Maxis continues to digitally enable B40 communities

Refurbished devices for Sarawak's B40 women
  • Devices contributed through Jabatan Wanita dan Keluarga Sarawak (JWKS)
  • Contribution part of Maxis’ commitment to #MYBaikHati initiative
  • Committed to enabling communities to leverage technology and Always Be Ahead in a changing world

In its efforts to help digitally enable diverse communities across Rangkaian Malaysia, Maxis has contributed refurbished desktops and laptops to several B40 communities in Sarawak through Jabatan Wanita dan Keluarga Sarawak (JWKS).

Through this contribution, selected recipients from B40 communities including Persatuan Ibu Tunggal Sarawak, Kelab Carnation Bahagian Kuching dan Samarahan, Sarawak Women for Women Society and Persekutuan Perkumpulan Wanita Sarawak, will be able to participate in eKelas Usahawan, Maxis’ digital marketing programme that equips women entrepreneurs with basic digital marketing skills and empowers them to have a stronger digital presence.

“The ability to leverage technology has become even more crucial especially in this post-pandemic environment, but not every family is in a financial position to be able to own a device. Maxis is pleased to be able to do our part in enabling more communities to be connected and importantly, participate in programmes like our eKelas Usahawan,” said Bhaarathyraja Thanapal, Maxis’ Head of East Malaysia Region.

JWKS has always been supportive of efforts by any party that sets up a digital ecosystem for women and families to gain the skills and access to suitable gadgets. This is important so that women in this country can contribute actively to development driven by the digital economy. We are very grateful to Maxis for contributing these devices, which will help these women tremendously,” said Norita binti Bawi, Director, JWKS.

The contribution is part of Maxis’ commitment to #MYBaikHati, a national crowdsourcing programme for pre-loved devices for distribution to communities in need, facilitated by the telecommunications industry under the purview of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Under #MYBaikHati, Maxis has already distributed over 420 desktops and laptops to schools and Pusat Ekonomi Digital Keluarga Malaysia (PeDIs) across the nation. Apart from enabling women entrepreneurs to access the eKelas Usahawan programme, the devices have also enabled more students to register and access eKelas, Maxis’ flagship community programme, which offers after-school digital content for Primary 4 to Form 5 students via the eKelas portal and mobile app.
