Bringing GenAI Education Closer to the Community through NADI

Generative AI (GenAI) is reshaping the world of work in ways we are only just beginning to understand. Beyond transforming industries, it holds immense potential to accelerate youth learning and improve employability. However, without intentional efforts, these opportunities risk being unevenly shared.

Through our flagship programme, Maxis eKelas, we are actively working to bring GenAI education closer to communities, ensuring that no young person, regardless of background or location, is left behind in this era of opportunity.

To further this mission, we partnered with NADI, a digital hub initiative by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). Operated by telcos, NADI serves communities in underserved areas and plays a crucial role as a bridge to digital inclusivity. This collaboration exemplifies how technology can break down barriers and widen access to digital education.

Over the months of November and December, we conducted workshops, both physically and virtually at NADI centres in Sikamat, Negeri Sembilan; Luyang, Sabah; Tronoh, Perak; and Kampung Pendamar, Selangor. These sessions introduced students to innovative tools like ChatGPT and Ideogram, showcasing how AI can support their learning journeys and unlock new opportunities.

The workshops revealed a critical insight: many of the participating students had never heard of ChatGPT, and even more were unfamiliar with Ideogram. This knowledge gap underscores the importance of initiatives like ours in equipping students with the tools for a digital future. The sessions not only sparked curiosity but also laid the foundation for these students to harness the power of AI in their education and beyond.

We remain committed to bridging the digital divide and ensuring every child is equipped to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
